He stood near the falls leaning on the tall pine tree dreamily thinking about all that had happened that day. He did not expect it to be his chance to be the next person. He was satisfied living there and enjoying the heavenly life. But he knew he had to do it. Experience the new life. Away from his close one. The one whom he had been with all along. The white water of the river flowed in its serene nature, dancing past the rocks and the shore. The green lawn on the other side facing the waterfalls sparkled in the evening twilight. He was unusually standing there all alone without her. He had wanted this moment all alone. Just by himself. The soothing music on the other side of the falls fell on his ears. It was the usual ceremony after that day’s occasion. He was not interested to be there. He knew she would be there. She. His guardian angel. Deepthi. And He. Siddharth.

There was a sudden coolness in the air and he knew the time had come. He felt her presence in the lonely surroundings. He turned around and saw her standing near the entrance to the park.

“Are you ready to start off?” Her voice was low and weak.

“Have you spoken to Him? Did you try convincing Him? I really don’t want to go ahead with this?”

“You know, ‘everything happens for a reason.’ It is time you have to take up your new adventure. There are lots for you to achieve down there and it is not all who are here who get this opportunity. And I am happy for you. It wont be long. Just a few rotations and a fewer revolutions as you know. ”

“Do you think you can bear the pain when I am gone for those few rotations and revolutions that you are talking about?” Something prevented him from speaking more.

Silence.

He looked at her again. The long white sari fluttered in the wind. He had seen her like that the very first day and she had not changed at all. The same sari. The same smiling face. The same love. Her eyes sparkled in the fading lights. The darkness was racing ahead fast. But her illuminance was glowing from within.

He took a deep breath and walked towards her. He stopped a few steps away from her and waited for her to break the silence. She moved closer and took his hand and started leading him. It was the first time that he had felt someone touch him. He realized she was taking him to start off his new life. She did not show any sign of regret. He wondered if she had any emotions or if it were all washed away in the eternality of the place.

He allowed her to lead the way. She took her through the golden door. The one he had always seen only from this side. He had been eager to know the happenings on the other side but now as he walked through it, he wished he was back on the side that he was familiar with, his favorite one.

As he entered the new world, he suddenly felt a different flow of emotions. Emotions that he hadn’t felt before in his old abode. Deepthi still held onto his hand leading him with the usual calmness in her face. They reached another door where she left him and went to another beautiful young lady to enquire something.

Siddharth stood there looking around at the new place. There were many doors with a guard at each one of them. Doors of all sizes and shapes and types. He noticed a few people being led into different kinds of doors just as him. But surprisingly, all of them were happy about going through the door, unlike him. He detested the idea of even leaving this wonderful place where he was most comfortable. But now he had no choice.

There was a large vacant land, green and fertile with all kinds of flowers on one side and the milky river flowing on the other side. The fragrance of the flowers made the place seem more heavenly. He could see all kinds of creatures, each living in harmony. Colorful butterflies, Dancing peacocks, innocent deer, the ferocious tiger and more. But they seemed to mind their own business without harming anyone.

He knew it was not going to be the same in his new place. He had heard lots about his new abode of living where everything was going to be different and unusual.

“Shall we proceed?” It was Deepthi.

He looked at her, nodded and held out his hand for her to lead him. She took his hand without any emotion in her clear white face and resumed their journey. They passed through the door and entered the next phase of their journey. Silence followed them throughout their way.

They reached a large illuminated path marked by numbers and something written below each number. The words were not visible but he knew they had some meaning to his new life.

“Siddharth, we are almost there and we have some more time before you can leave.” Deepthi’s words made him come back to reality.

Siddharth looked at her surprised. She still had something to talk to him. Her last few words to him before he was going to meet her again after ages.

“I have got something to tell you and that is very essential to you too. It has been eons since we both have been here. And now it is you who are the chosen one to take up a new life. A new life in a new home. The Earth. A Re-Birth. The Life of emotions and challenges. Your new venture is the most precious one that you are being blessed with. The bag of new experiences and hurdles that is going to make you even stronger. Life is one word in the world of the humans that is going to be worth more than anything else there. And you are bestowed with it. This day, I prayed hard for you to be there. Not to make you feel the loneliness, but to know what relationships are. What life means. What love and sorrow mean. How it feels to experience pain. How it is to get caught in a whirl of emotions. All varied ones - Ones due to loss of loved ones, Ones due to disappointments. Ones due to excitements and more. All I would say is, don’t get caught in any of them. Take life as it comes. Live one day at a time. Cherish the good things that happen in your life and take the defeats as motivations to make you a better person. There is always a new day awaiting you to start afresh. Lots of new hopes. Lots of new dreams. Dream as much as you can. And work hard to make those dreams come true. Remember whatever you get in your life is the best. Be satisfied with whatever little you have because there might be many others who don’t get to enjoy all the happiness in that lonely planet miles and miles away. Pave a place for yourself such that people remember you even long after you are back here.” Deepthi paused and waited for Siddharth’s response.

He just stood there without a word. He knew she was helping to make him feel better with all those words of knowledge and wisdom. He had a tough job at hand but he sure was confident that he could manage it with all the love of his beloved one, Deepthi.

“It sure seems an interesting place to be in, right? A place where people shed tears to fall in love and shed more tears to fall out of it.” He smiled at her.

“Yeah. But it brings you joy when you personally experience it. And I am sure you are going to have a wonderful time there.

“Deepthi, can I ask you something now?”

“Yes, Siddharth.”

“Would I be able to meet you anytime when I am there, if I need to? At least talk to you…”

Deepthi’s lips curved into a smile. “A part of me would be there all along with you, right within you. You would be able to listen to me anytime. Just that you won’t be knowing that I am Deepthi, your beloved one. I would just be an inner voice guiding you and guarding you. It is your choice to listen to me or not. But whatever happens, even if you keep ignoring me, I would opt to stay with you throughout till you return. And yes, incase there are times when you feel lonely or you don’t find me responding to you, which will actually not happen, just look at all those stars above you. Each one of them would be each moment that I am going to miss you when I am waiting here for you.”

Siddharth’s mind relaxed a bit and he heaved a sigh of relief. At least he knew she would be there with him always.

“So, what next?”

“There is more that I need to tell you, dear Siddharth. Do you see those numbers and the words below them all along the path here? They represent your age and your each year that you are going to live your life on Earth. You have an option of seeing all that is going to happen in your future. All has been crafted right now itself and it is a custom that you get to see them before you enter a new Birth. ”

Siddharth stood there awe-struck and walked closer to each number. He reached the number ‘25’ and saw that there was something written beneath that. Love was crafted there with ‘Shreeja’ named over it. His love on Earth – Shreeja. He liked the name. He smiled to himself. He walked further and reached ‘43’. He saw himself with Shreeja standing beside him. It seemed like he was being felicitated for something. He didn’t want to see all the other numbers. He returned to Deepthi.

“So you know your future now. But the best part is you would forget all about this exactly at the moment when you step onto the Earth. From then on, it is going to be a life of surprises.”

Deepthi looked above and realized something. “Siddharth, it is time now for you to leave. From now onwards, you are all by yourself. I can come only till this place. My work is done and I would be rejoining you after your birth as your conscience. Till then, you just need to let destiny take you to the place where you have to reach. All the best and May God Bless You.”

Siddharth looked above into the vast space and he saw his Creator smiling at him and showering His blessings upon him. This was the second time that he was seeing Him. The first time was when he entered this holy place, Heaven.

Time ticked on and at a particular moment, Deepthi led him to a small door and left him to walk through it.

She stood there smiling and waving at him. He waited for a moment looking at her. He knew he was going to miss her very much but calmed himself at the thought that she would be present within him till he was away. He took a deep breath and opened the door and stepped out. The next moment, he was flying in space. He was shrinking in size. He saw all the lovely planets and stars on his way. The Lovely Saturn with its rings, the magnificent Pluto, the new-yet-to-be discovered planets…

It seemed like ages of his travel when he spotted a lonely heavenly body with all its craters rotating diligently around another of its kind. He looked beyond it to see the beauty of the lonely Planet. The heavenly planet with all its riches and glamour. Swirling away in its orbit leaving behind all the past memories of its inhabitants. Siddharth was lost and wonder-struck at the sight of the only planet that bore life. The planet that signified the hopes of all children of the Lord. His new Home!! Suddenly he started feeling very light. He had shrunk to a minute being and was now just the size of a cell. A cell that was going to take the place of the union of two others. A miracle in the life of any human being. The birth of a cell. A new Life. A new being.

It took less than nine months for him to be formed fully and it took more than nine whole hours for him to experience the whole new lease of life. As he opened his tiny little eyes, he could see the happy and overjoyed faces of a new set of people, all looking at him with pride.

“Oh my Lovely little sweetheart! My bundle of joy… My Siddharth!!”

The baby smiled. Siddharth. He liked his name. Seemed familiar to him.

“Oh! Who are all these people? Why are they staring at me like this?” The little baby thought to itself.

“That lady on the bed next to you is your mom and your dad is the one who is smiling right at you, proud to be a dad! And that is…

“Wait… Who are you?”

“Oh.. You don’t know me right? Let me introduce myself. Am your CONSCIENCE.”

Siddharth smiled not knowing what the voice meant. But he felt happy anyway.

“You are indeed lucky to have your baby son born right on a New Year’s Day, Mr. Vinay. Congrats to you and your wife.” Vinay thanked the doctor standing beside him.

“Happy New Year, Siddharth!!” Vinay leaned forward and kissed his son.
